SF is Truly the Queen of Blue Skies
Okay, starting off, I’m sorry that there was no Monday blog post, but ya girl was tired and had had a very very long week full of exams and homework, and I could NOT find the energy to go through all of my photos and write up part two of my San Francisco trip (also if you haven’t read part one, what are you even doing here? Go read it you silly goose!). So, I decided to save it for today!
Let me paint a picture for you. It’s my first full day in SF, the sun is shining, and I am READY to take on the day. Before the trip, I had dragged Coley to H&M because I wanted to donate some clothes and search for some new ones, and I snatched up the cutest lavender sweater. I paired it with my favorite pair of jeans that are actually from Salvation Army that I had cropped, and I was ready to GO.
Jordan and I were staying at a hotel called Hotel Triton, right by the gates to Chinatown, and we started the morning by eating breakfast at the Starbucks across the street. It was easy, fast, and cheap, and that was good enough for me. I hadn’t perfected my milk tea order from the Colorado trip but I had been ordering it so much I was starting to really love the taste of it? So I ordered that and a little sandwich, and I was good.
There was no Linus to guide us through SF, so I was ready to take the lead. I had researched a LOT about the best places to see the Golden Gate Bridge, and I decided that Battery Spencer was the place to be. It’s across from like real SF, and it gives you a really high vantage point to see the bridge. We grabbed an Uber, and we were on our way!
It was only a 10ish minute drive up to Battery Spencer, and once we got out of the car, you could truly tell how high up you were. There were like no railings along the edge which was questionable? But, I was so excited to see the view that I didn’t care.
We came to SF on a really lucky day; there was not a single cloud in the sky. It was blue skies for DAYS. There was like no one even there because we had woken up early thanks to jet lag, and I was loving it. I ran instantly to the edge of Battery Spencer and was in awe.
The view there is EVERYTHINGGGGG.
Coley has had the photo of the Golden Gate Bridge as the lock screen of his phone literally since the day I met him, and I never really thought anything that special about it until I saw it in person. The wind was a little crazy ,and it’s definitely high up, but I was in love.
After making some friends with some German tourists and having a mini photoshoot, I was ready to explore the other parts of Battery Spencer. There’s nothing really at Battery Spencer other than good views and old abandoned buildings from when it used to be a fort, but I still loved it. At one point, I climbed up on the edge of the fort and just looked out across the Pacific Ocean. Ugh. I wish I was still there.
But once we were both done looking at the bridge, Jordan and I called another Uber and went back across the bridge to Bison Paddock. There’s honestly nothing that special about Bison Paddock other than the fact that there’s this really large piece of land with a bunch of grazing bison, but I loved it so much. If you’re an animal lover or just want to enjoy the sunshine and pretty flowers, this place is for you. I was perfectly content just watching the bison roam around and munch on grass.
We sat here for a little bit and just took in the sun and happy, calm bison, and I could have honestly stayed there all day if I could, but unfortunately, I had things to #see. Our next stop after that was the famous Painted Ladies.
Once again, we ubered our way over to the Painted Ladies, and honestly, they were a little bit anticlimactic? Like they’re cool and all, but literally they’re just a row of houses all painted pastel colors. I could find a row just like that on a beach in Florida, but I guess that’s none of my business. I mean, I’m glad I saw them, but once I did I was kind of like “that’s it?”
I had more fun just exploring the little park that sits across from the Painted Ladies. It had a lot of cool trails and cute puppies, and that made the Painted Ladies so much better.
Our next stop was In-n-Out. I knew I wanted to eat this the moment I knew I was going to California. If you know me, you know I’m an avid supporter of Chicago’s Shake Shack and I wanted to see how In-n-Out tested against it. I’ve had In-n-Out before, but it had been awhile so I was ready.
We went BACK to Fisherman’s Wharf from the day before, and quickly snagged a table. It was so busy but we were prepared to wait. I got a cheeseburger with fries and honestly, it’s so good, but it’s not quite Shake Shack good. It’s more like Five Guys good, you know? But still, I was into it.
At In-n-Out, Jordan and I planned out what we were going to do next. While munching on our cheeseburgers, we decided to pay the Museum of Ice Cream a visit, courtesy of my sister Carmen. Carmen texted me the night before and was like “omg you have to go,” and I was like “you right.”
So after our meal, we hopped in ANOTHER Uber and made our way to the Museum of Ice Cream! We got really lucky and it turned out that day they were doing a discount on tickets and were giving away pints of ice cream, so I was into it.
The first thing I noticed was that this place was the definition of being a millennial. Parents were getting mad because they didn’t know that you could only buy tickets online, and honestly, the whole point of the museum was to eat sweet things and take Insta photos of yourself.
The Museum of Ice Cream takes you on a tour of the whole place, but Jordan and I were like um no thanks and kind of ditched our group the moment we could HAHA. But before we could ditch them, they made us do these games with the rest of our group that I was not that into.
The first place they brought us to was the sprinkle pool, that was literally a pool of sprinkles. It’s definitely a cool concept and I definitely bought a shirt with the sprinkle pool on it, but in actuality it’s kind of gross. Like every is in this sprinkle pool, without socks on, and people are just like laying in it and taking photos in it. I was like … this is not sanitary, but okay.
The rest of the tour was a lot cleaner. They took us through rooms with mochi, cotton candy, and of course, ice cream! Honestly, your ticket basically just covers all the food they give you because it’s a lot. They told a bunch of stories that went along with the room but it was definitely aimed more for little kids than adults.
Jordan and I took cute pictures and then skrted out of there lol. It was fun, just not like SUPER fun, you know? A cool experience, but maybe that’s a one and done kind of thing. The museum ended with a cone of ice cream and that was nice.
After we wrapped up the Museum of Ice Cream, Jordan and I headed out to do some shopping. I ended up coming back to the hotel with new eyebrow gel, and a bunch of new outfits from H&M LMAO. Honestly, highlight of the trip hahaha.
We went back to the hotel and just chilled out before we decided we were hungry. For dinner, we found a restaurant super close to us called Hops and Hominy, that served Southern style cuisine. I ordered fried chicken and it was awesome.
By this time, I was worn out. I could definitely tell that I was ready to go to sleep by the time dinner was over, but I was glad I was in SF. I was glad that I was experiencing a city without my family for the first time. Plus, I knew that the next day was going to be long (aka look out for my next blog post) and I knew I needed that sleep.
As I write this, I long for the blue skies of San Francisco, but the 60 degree weather in Bloomington will have to do. Until next Monday, everyone.
All the Best, Sabrina
